Freeman Choi
"Being part of FYidoctors has not only allowed me to provide my patients with exceptional eye care using the latest in diagnostic equipment such as the Optomap but I can also offer a wider range of spectacle lens options with the latest internal free form lenses to help maximize visual clarity and comfort." Born and raised in Lethbridge Alberta, Dr. Choi attended the University of Lethbridge before transferring to the University of Waterloo in Ontario where he completed his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. During his training he had a 4 month ophthalmological externship with emphasis on cataracts, cornea, retina and therapeutic drugs in Houston,Texas. Dr. Choi was also the Clinical Director of the Edmonton network for TLC Laser Center in Vancouver which later became VisionMed. He has over 14 years of experience working directly with the surgeons as well as co-management of refractive surgery patients. In his spare time he has volunteered locally and in third world countries providing eye care to the less fortunate. He is a member of the Alberta College of Optometrist and Alberta Association of Optometrists and is able to provide eye examinations in Cantonese.
Eric Der
Dr. Eric Der was born and raised in Edmonton, graduating with a Bachelor of Science at the University of Alberta. His passion for helping others propelled him on to receive his Doctor of Optometry at the New England College of Optometry, training in primary eye care, contact lenses, binocular vision and ocular disease.Dr. Der thoroughly enjoys practicing optometry and is thankful to be in a position where he can make a positive impact on the current and future health of your eyes. He believes that "your vision should never hold you back from anything you wish to achieve".He enjoys volunteering his time and expertise locally in a number of different settings, including promoting eye health and awareness in senior care homes, schools and new mothers groups. In his leisure time, Dr. Der lives an active outdoor lifestyle and you often find him on the golf course.Dr. Der is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists, Alberta College of Optometrists and in 2014 completed a certification course in oral therapeutics, glaucoma and advanced diagnostics.Dr. Der is pleased to be a part of the FYidoctors team and is thrilled to be able to provide exceptional eye care in a clinic that provides the newest optometric tools, optical lenses and latest fashion trends in eyewear.
Steve Larsen
Dr. Steven Larsen graduated in 1977 from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and graduated from Pacific University with his Doctor of Optometry with Distinction in 1980. His private practice was established at West Edmonton Mall in 1980, where he practiced for 31 years, until he joined Fyidoctors in 2011 as the Lead Optometrist at the WEM location. Dr. Larsen's continued commitment to his patients, old and new, is represented in his personal motto: To provide professional, caring and technologically advanced eyecare to our patients one visit at a time. Being an advocate for other Optometrists, along with advocating for the general public, Dr Larsen has held the following positions on the Alberta Association of Optometry Council: 2008-2010 Chair AAO Negotiating Committee, 2008- 2010 President AAO, 2006-2008 President AAO, 2004-2005 President Elect AAO, 2002-2003 Secretary Treasurer AAO and 1999-2001 Alberta Association of Optometrists Council. Dr. Larsen and his wife Kerry have five children and five grandchildren. He also enjoys golfing, fantasy football, and travelling.
Allison Ellis
Dr. Ellis grew up in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from the University of Saskatchewan and went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science. Throughout her clinical training, Dr. Ellis developed full scope optometry skills, working at a variety of family practices in Alberta and alongside a glaucoma specialist at a veterans hospital in New York, NY. Since being in clinical practice she has a developed a special interest in dry eye disease management, ocular aesthetics and ocular nutrition. Dr. Ellis recently returned to work after having her first child. Aside from being a new mom, she enjoys cooking, being active, playing golf and she loves to travel. Dr. Ellis is a member of the Ocular Wellness and Nutrition Society, Alberta Association of Optometrists, Alberta College of Optometrists and in 2014 completed a certification course in oral therapeutics, glaucoma and advanced diagnostics.
